Dexter Field Hockey faced two top opponent this week and came away with matching 2-0 victories to remain second in the Division 1 regular season conference standings.
On Monday, the Dreadnaughts traveled to Saline for a match-up with the Hornets. Both teams only had one loss on their record. both losing to the Huron River Rats. The Dreads struck quick with early pressure in the scoring circle. Just 2:57 into the first Senior attacker, Gabi Waddington put home a rebound off of the goalies pads to give the Dreads the early 1-0. As the match-up continued, it lived up to expectations as the Hornets and Dreadnaughts traded chances and battled tough in the midfield. Late in the first half, Abigail Tamer scored the insurance goal off corner play set up by Claire Vaughn. The Dreads out shot the Hornets 9-3, and lead in corners 10 – 6. Maggie Jones and Mikayla Warner combined for the shutout while Skylar Waddington contributed two defensive saves late in the second half the secure the victory.
On Thursday, the Dreadnaughts played host to the Wildcats from Novi. The Dreadnaughts started quick and had early pressure on the Wildcats, firing 12 shots on frame in the first half. Novi goalie Cece Steck had the answer in the first half to the attempts. After a few readjustments at half time, the Dreads found scoring quickly in the second. Freshman Kylee Niswonger finished a post to post pass from Gabi Waddington. Then, just 1:16 later Niswonger again found the net for the 2-0 lead. Dexter out shot Novi 19-2 and earned 11 penalty corners to Novi’s 1. Again, Jones and Warner combined for the shutout victory recording two saves.

Dexter JV remains unbeaten, improves to 8-0-3.
Dexter JV played two tough matches this week, walking away with a tie and a decisive 4-0 victory. In the first game, a match-up with the Saline Hornets, the Dreads battled a tough Saline team earning 6 shots on goal and 4 penalty corners. The Hornets defense had the answer and their goalie turned away all of the shots to frustrate the Dreads attack. Behind strong play from the Dexter defensive group of Erin Baldwin, Maya Calloway, Taylor Shook and Anna Gauthier the Dreads didn’t allow a shot on goal.
Thursday versus Novi the Dexter attack found the finishing touch scoring two in the first and two in the second for the 4-0 victory. Sam Skinner led the attack with two goals, while Shannon Schoch contributed a goal and an assist. Annalisa Shehab found the back of the net for the final goal while Rachel Gesell and Clara Gauthier both contributed an assist in the game.
